ÖFB team celebrates the fourth victory: pressure falls after Bosnia drama!

The Austrian national team took a significant step towards qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 2-1 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina. With their fourth win in their fourth game, the team remains on course and shows strong identification with their country. Christoph Baumgartner describes the pressure that was lifted after the victory, while the team celebrated with music and pizza, supported by a cabin party atmosphere and singer Rainhard Fendrich, who added to the good mood. Michael Gregoritsch emphasizes that the team has become a unit and celebrates such interim steps. Despite the joy, team boss Ralf Rangnick warned that there is no reason to be satisfied as only half of the qualification has been played and continues to demand maximum concentration.

In the game against Bosnia, the team noticed that it was a difficult start, as Rangnick noted. Especially after Edin Džeko's early compensation in the 50th minute, which fell after a briefly inattentive moment of the ÖFB defensive, the team had to react confidently. Marcel Sabitzer scored 1-0 in the 49th minute. The ÖFB cleverly defended and did not let Bosnia into the danger zone for a long time. Konrad Laimer finally secured victory in the 65th minute with a gate after a deflected shot by Marko Arnautović. However, there were also setbacks: Amar Dedic had to be replaced injured.

Preparation for the next challenges

The current form of the team is also evident in the previous qualification: Austria has established itself as a favorite in the HE group in recent years and is now considered a serious request for the return to the World Cup finals, which was last reached in 1998. This is a big goal after six failures in the World Cup qualifications. With regard to the future games, including the next against San Marino on October 9 and against Romania on October 12, the team around captain David Alaba knows that the way is still long. Further challenges are expected to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

In the current table, Bosnia-Herzegovina leads with 12 points, followed by Austria, which also has 12 points but only played four games. The table clearly shows the competitive situation in Group H:

team Dot Gaming Victory Defeats
Bosnia-Herzegovina 12 5 4 1
Austria 12 4 4 0
Romania 7 5 2 3
Cyprus 4 5 1 4
San Marino 0 5 0 5

Coach Ralf Rangnick has helped the team into an upswing and motivates his team not to get the current successes to head. With seven games, there is enough time for the ÖFB team to prepare for the World Cup qualification and take the next steps to achieve the goal after more than 25 years. The support of fans and urban identification with the team are positive signals that the players should continue to drive.
