Carinthian football: Is the fusion of the academies the future?

In Carinthia, the domestic football scene is in transition! The two academies of the WAC and Austria Klagenfurt currently look after 80 young players, but only one or two talents make it into professional football per year. In order to save costs, state sports director Arno Arno Arthofer has suggested that the two academies come together because the budget was reduced by 10 percent. The WAC received 400,000 euros and the Austria Klagenfurt 300,000 euros in grants. This could lead to a new academy under the Carinthian Football Association, which can be realized at the earliest in 2026/27, as reported. The two clubs are generally open to discussions.

Austria Klagenfurt, on the other hand, has already made significant progress in building up its own academy. Young director Wolfgang Schellenberg was able to present the trainers for the U18, U16 and U15, including prominent names such as Christian Schreiber and Robert Micheu for the U18. Höller, an experienced former Bundesliga player, will lead the U16, while Alexander Bauer leads the U15 team with a strong past as an academy manager at LASK. This was reported by Skaustriaklagenfurt.at . The message is clear: the talent training is top priority to produce the next stars of the Carinthian football.

In the middle of these developments, the two clubs scrabble around their future in the youth area. While the conversations on the merger of the academies are still hanging in the air, Austria Klagenfurt shows with the occupation of its coaching teams that they are willing to take future -oriented steps. This dynamic could be crucial for the promotion of young talents and competitiveness in Austrian football.
