Violence in Amsterdam: Five men condemned for attacks on Maccabi fans

Five men condemned for brutal riots against Israeli football fans in Amsterdam!

A Dutch court sentenced five men to their role in the violent arguments with fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv in Amsterdam. The judgments fell on Tuesday and cover a spectrum of offenses, from physical violence to calls to violence in chat groups.

The most difficult punishment was given to a man named Sefa O., who was sentenced to six months in prison for public violence against several people. Violence occurred on November 8th during two-day clashes in the city, when Israeli football fans met alleged pro-Palestinian demonstrators, before and after a European League game between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax.

brutal scenes and racist slogans!

videos that circulated on social media showed the Israeli fans who sang racist and anti-Arab songs, vandalized a taxi and burned a Palestinian flag. These provocative actions led to a violent outbreak, which was initiated by the Israeli fans, as witnesses and a local council member told Al Jazera.

The police arrested people who had attacked Israeli fans while allegations of anti -Semitism were loud worldwide. The prosecutor made it clear that the attacks had "little to do with football" emphasized that "in this case there was no evidence of a terrorist background and violence did not result from anti -Semitic motives". Rather, the violence was influenced by the Situation in the Gaza Strip.

a case of attempted murder and other suspects!

Another defendant, Umutcan A., 24, received a one-month prison sentence for the attack on fans and tearing off a Maccabi scarf. A 22-year-old, Abushabab M., faces the indictment of the attempted murder, but his process was suspended while he is subjected to a psychiatric assessment. His lawyer said that he was born in the Gaza Strip and grew up in a war zone while Abushabab cried during the negotiation.

Six other suspects will appear in court at a later date, including three minors whose procedures are negotiated behind closed doors. The police are now investigating at least 45 people because of the riots, including the violence, which was exercised by the fans of the Israeli club.

In an emotional press conference in the morning after the riots, the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, explained that the city was "deeply damaged" by "hateful anti -Semitic rioters". However, she later regretted that she had compared the violence with “memories of pogroms” because this word was used as a propaganda.
