Worms University: Jonas Deichelmann wins at the IHK Prize 2024!
Worms, Deutschland - On January 9, 2025, Jonas Deichelmann, graduate of the Worms University of Applied Sciences, received first place in the IHK Prize 2024. His master thesis with the title "Development and evaluation of a mobile software application to support the parents of early and sick" was awarded. The jury praised the strong practical relevance, the innovative strength and the social benefit of the application.
The master's thesis was created in cooperation with 8devs GmbH, a start-up that Dichelmann co-founded and specializes in software solutions in the healthcare sector. The developed mobile app (Neodiary) makes parents of premature babies and sick newborns make everyday life. Prof. Dr. Mario Rüdiger from the "German Foundation for the sick" accompanied the development of the app, which is already used by special clinics and foundations. In addition, the app received recognition at the Congress of the "German Society for Neonatology and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine" (GNPI) 2024 in Munich.

The award ceremony took place in the IHK for Rheinhessen in Mainz. IHK President Dr. Marcus Walden emphasized the importance of the cooperation between science and business. Deichelmann received the award from Dr. Marcus Walden and the managing director Karina Szwede. In addition to Deichelmann, other outstanding work was also awarded: second place (1,500 euros) went to Pauline Knell from the TH Bingen for their bachelor thesis to optimize wind turbines, while Luisa Trapp and Florian Frank from HS Mainz took third place (1,000 euros) for their investigation of flood protection. A special prize "Best of the Best" was awarded to Sandra Lohmüller for their achievements in vocational training.
Deichelmann spoke of his impressive academic career, which began as early student at the Worms University of Applied Sciences, followed by a bachelor's degree, which he completed in just six semesters. After his bachelor, he worked as an IT consultant in Mannheim and founded 8devs GmbH in 2019, which among other things received an exist scholarship and has grown to eight employees. In 2022, Deichelmann returned to the university to study the master's degree in Mobile Computing. His experiences as a paramedic in the healthcare system confirmed him in his conviction that there is great potential in the connection between science and business. The Worms University of Applied Sciences congratulated Deichelmann on his outstanding success and underlined the quality and practical relevance of its teaching and research.
The IHK Prize promotes the transfer of knowledge between business and science, as is highlighted on the website of the IHK Niederbayern. This year, numerous innovative works were awarded that demonstrate the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
