ORF shines at Diagonal 2025: 14 prices for captivating films!
On March 31, 2025, outstanding achievements of the Austrian Film industry were awarded as part of the Diagonal Film Festival in Graz. The ORF was actively involved in the festival and introduced a total of 31 productions. The award was included in the renowned Thomas Pluch and Carl-Mayer script prices as well as other main prizes that were awarded in the Graz Annenhof Kino. The main award of the evening went to Mo Harawe for the script of his film "The Village Next to Paradise", which received the large diagonal price of the State of Styria as the best feature film. In addition, Marie Luise Lehner was awarded the special prize of the jury for her work "If you are afraid you are afraid in your mouth and smile". Both films address complex social and emotional structures and were recognized by the jury as outstanding contributions. A total of 14 awards for ORF-co-financed films were awarded at the event. screenplay prices and their meaning
Another highlight of the event was the awarding of the Carl-Mayer and Thomas Pluch screenplay prices, which took place in the folklore museum in Graz. These awards are very much viewed in the Austrian film industry, whereby the Carl Mayer script prices are endowed with a total of € 44,500. City Councilor Günter Riegler and Peter Schernhuber, head of the film department of the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport, were present and underlined the importance of these prices for the film industry.
The current winning book prices are one of the current winners:
- Carl-Mayer main prize (€ 15,000): "If fish eat seals" by Klemens Hufnagl.
