Christmas magic in the Waldviertel: magical excursions await you!
In the run-up to Christmas, the waiting time for Christ Child is shortened with exciting and festive activities in the region. On December 24th, families and children can look forward to a very special ride on the Waldviertelbahn Christmas train. The train starts in Gmünd at 1 p.m. and takes passengers to Weitra, where the Christ child tells the Christmas story together with a night watchman. A punch hut, which is open during your stay, also ensures the right atmosphere. The return to Gmünd is planned for 3 p.m.
But that's not all: the Wackelstein Express will also be on its way from Heidenreichstein on December 24th. Here we go back via Alt-Nagelberg, and the Christ child distributes Christmas packages to the children during the journey. To fortify the passengers, they can expect mulled wine, punch and hot sausages. The departures take place at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., but places are limited and it is advisable to act quickly to get seats.
Homemade children's punch for the cold season
The cold season is also the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to a warming children's punch. How Stuttgart News report, there are many recipes that are suitable not only for children, but also for adults who want to avoid alcohol. The fruity mixtures, for example with grape or apple juice, warm you from the inside and bring a festive atmosphere into your home. The preparation is simple and can be personalized with different fruits and spices.
In addition to these contemplative activities, children can do crafts at the old sports field in Amaliendorf and take part in the Christmas story lecture. The Gmünd Volunteer Fire Department invites you to an open day on Christmas Eve, where mulled wine and punch are available. Another highlight for families is the Christmas mass with nativity play in the Litschau parish church.
