Tragic accident at work in Gammer: Two men die during construction work

in Gammer, Upper Austria, occurred on Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 2025, a tragic work accident in which two workers died. Around 2:45 p.m., several men got into a fatal trap during excavation work when the künette broke and buried them under earth. The fire brigade and rescue workers were immediately alerted after reports about several spilled people were received. The worst fears were confirmed on site: five workers were affected, while initially it was unclear how many were buried underground. Two of the men, at the age of 40 and 60, could only be recovered dead when the emergency services finally managed to control the situation. The work focused on a künette of around 20 meters long and three meters deep, where the emergency services had to laboriously remove earth to find the victims.

According to Wolfgang Hufnagl, the district fire brigade commander Vöcklabruck, the effort started to save all workers alive. At first a person survived and was able to free herself before collapsing. Two other workers who could be recovered seriously injured were immediately taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, every help for the two deceased men came too late. The exact circumstances of the accident are still unclear, and the investigation is underway to find out what led to this fateful incident, while the accumulation of similar accidents in the region remains worrying, such as Quellen:
