Serious accident on the B169: Taxi crashes into a column of trucks – several injured!

On February 6, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Zillertal federal road (B169) in the Tyrolean municipality of Stumm at around 10:00 a.m., which resulted in several injuries. A 55-year-old taxi driver was on his way down the valley with two Dutch passengers when he overtook a truck team driving in front of him despite a barrier line. This risky maneuver resulted in a dramatic collision with a tractor-trailer that was heading towards him. According to police, the 54-year-old truck driver tried to avoid a head-on collision by steering his truck toward the guardrail, but without success. The taxi was thrown directly into the collision, whereupon it became trapped between the two semi-trailers.

The consequences were devastating: The taxi driver and a 60-year-old Dutch passenger suffered serious injuries and were flown to the Innsbruck clinic in emergency medical helicopters - Heli 4 and Alpin 5. Another passenger, 55 years old, also sustained injuries of an unspecified degree and was taken to BKH Schwaz in an ambulance. All vehicles involved suffered significant material damage or even total loss. The B169 remained closed in both directions for over four hours while the accident was investigated and a local diversion was put in place, reported Fireworld.

Rescue operation and traffic accident recording

A total of around 35 emergency services from the Kaltenbach/Zell/Mayrhofen volunteer fire department, the Red Cross with two ambulances and several police patrols were on site to deal with the situation. The incident not only had serious consequences for those directly affected, but also significantly disrupted traffic in the region for several hours courier reported.
