Serious injuries in dramatic traffic accident in Tauplitz!
On September 14, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred in Bad Mitterndorf, Liezen district, when a 34-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle. The car hit a guard rail and fell about ten meters down an embankment, overturning. There was a 19-year-old passenger in the car with him. After the accident, both occupants were able to free themselves from the vehicle and climb up the embankment, but suffered injuries of an unspecified degree and were taken to hospital. The driver was transported to Schladming Hospital in the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter and the passenger in an ambulance ARF reported.
Rescue operation and injuries
Another incident occurred during the extensive rescue operation, which involved several Red Cross vehicles and around 30 firefighters. A firefighter from the Bad Mitterndorf Volunteer Fire Department suffered serious injuries when his hand got caught in a winch during rescue work. Several fingers were seriously injured and he also had to be taken to hospital after receiving first aid. The fire department secured the vehicle and set up preventative fire protection to avert further dangers ORF Salzburg carried out.
The accident took place around 6:45 p.m. when the driver skidded on a right-hand bend, left the road to the right and overturned over the embankment. These serious events mobilized numerous rescue workers and caused the bypass tunnel in Oberndorf to be closed for around an hour.
