Schüttorf – Drama on Schevestrasse! A single-family home became the scene of a devastating fire that broke out shortly after midnight. The flames, the exact cause of which is still unknown, broke out in the living room and triggered a devastating chain reaction that quickly spread to the upper floor and attic. Residents noticed alarming noises and an intense smell of burning, whereupon they called the fire department.

When rescuers arrived, the living room was ablaze. The heat was so extreme that the glass panes on the ground floor and upper floor began to shatter, causing the flames to spread even faster. Firefighters fought heroically for several hours to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes, a race against time that was fortunately successful.

An uninhabitable home and extensive damage

The badly damaged building is now uninhabitable. A separate challenge was the large amount of material deposited, which made extinguishing work even more difficult and increased the extent of the destruction. The amount of damage is currently estimated at around 100,000 euros - a horrendous sum that underlines the consequences of this devastating fire. The investigation into the cause of the fire is in full swing and the scene of the fire has been confiscated for the time being so that further analysis can be carried out.
