On Saturday afternoon, the fire brigades in Syke and the surrounding area were alerted when a large fire had hit a farmhouse in Ristedt. Around 2 p.m., a resident discovered heavily rising smoke from the building, which served as a residential and commercial unit. The fire brigades from several municipalities were immediately mobilized, including the weirs from Gessel-Rristt, Barrien and Melchiorshausen. The extinguishing work was extremely challenging because the cause of the fire was difficult to determine, and the intense flames made an internal attack impossible. The fire brigade also had to deal with a forest fire near Freistädter Strasse. A 72-year-old resident noticed smoke development around 2:45 p.m. and promptly alerted the fire brigade. Alarm level 2 was immediately triggered, and the Hirschbach volunteer fire brigade was supported by another nine weirs.
