Major fire in St. Michael: residents rescued in time!

In the early morning of March 5, 2025, the St. Michael fire department was alerted to a devastating fire in a residential building at around 5:30 a.m. The fire, which broke out on a balcony, quickly spread to the roof structure and led to the alarm level being raised to 3. A total of seven fire departments with 96 emergency services were on site to fight the flames meinkreis.at reported. Despite the challenges, crews managed to bring the fire under control by 6:49 a.m., but it was not yet fully extinguished. Fire department spokesman Michael Keidel explained that it was necessary to open parts of the roof cladding as well as interior wall and ceiling cladding in order to get to the fire.

Thanks to the quick action of a caretaker, the 25 residents of the house were able to be brought to safety before the fire department arrived, but fortunately no one was injured. The state fire brigade association announced that those affected will initially be accommodated in a hotel and cared for there. While most fire departments left the scene at 7:30 a.m., the St. Michael Fire Department remains on site to take over fire safety watch and search for embers with a thermal imaging camera orf.at reported. The Salzburg public prosecutor's office has commissioned an expert to determine the cause of the fire. There is currently no information available about the amount of damage caused.
