Fire in St. Pölten: Fast use of the fire brigade prevents worse
St. Pölten, Österreich - st. Pölten (Lower Austria): On the morning of March 20, 2025, the St. Pölten fire brigade was alerted via the automatic fire alarm system. Already when the fire truck arrived, thick, black smoke from a window of the administrative wing on the first floor was visible. The alarm level was immediately increased and additional emergency services were requested to meet the danger quickly, as Fireworld reported.

The fire brigade, equipped with respiratory protection, were welcomed by the in -house fire protection group of the St. Pölten judiciary, which had already made a complete evacuation of the affected area. Together, the firefighters penetrated the smoky office and immediately started extinguishing measures. With a smoke curtain and an overpressure ventilation, the emergency services protected neighboring buildings from a further spread of the smoke. State fire director Didi Fahrafellner personally took over the operations management and coordinated the extinguishing work, which was successfully completed in the shortest possible time.
After the extinguishing campaign, another respiratory protection team from the fire brigade checked the entire building with a thermal imaging camera. No injuries could be reported, and the devices and operating cladding, which were contaminated up to that point, were subjected to cleaning. The team finally handed the site to the executive to check the cause of the fire. In order to optimally prepare the emergency services for such cases, VFDB in its leaflet for operational hygiene recommends clear procedures and hygiene regulations for fire brigade operations in order to increase the safety of everyone involved, as in vfdb listed.
