Around 2 p.m., when a 55-year-old Austrian returned from her purchase, she already noticed the smell of fire in the staircase. When opening the door to the apartment, the situation was alarming: thick swaths of smoke flocked out and the kitchen had already caught fire. Her daughter was immediately alarmed on the phone and informed the fire brigade. The situation escalated again: Shortly after 6 p.m. in the same building, which was already evacuated, a second fire broke out, this time in the roof structure. This time, 170 firefighters from Pfunds, Nauders, Tösens, Ried, Serfaus and Landeck as well as police officers and rescue workers were deployed, as ORF reported. The large alarm for the fire departments was finally brought under control at 7.45 p.m., while the investigation into the cause of the fire continues to run. The dramatic events not only ensured personal suffering, but also an enormous line -up of emergency services in the small community.
