Death and destruction in Kharkiv: Russian rockets hit police station!
A devastating Russian missile attack rocked the city of Kharkiv on Friday! The target was a police station in the heart of Ukraine's second largest city, resulting in a tragic loss: a senior police officer, Colonel Andriy Matviyenko, was killed, and at least 30 other people were injured, including four civilians. Police reported a massive impact that left a huge landscape of craters and turned the surrounding area into rubble.
The attack occurred late in the afternoon when two S-300 missiles were fired by Russian forces at the police station. Ivan Vygivsky, the head of Ukraine's National Police, said on Facebook that the attackers specifically targeted police forces. Photos showed the shocking aftermath: an injured police officer with his face covered in blood and rescue teams desperately working through the rubble. Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported seriously injured officers and further damage to residential buildings previously hit in another attack.
US military aid at record levels
In the midst of these dramatic events, the US government announced an additional $425 million military aid package for Ukraine on the same day! This support comes at a critical time, as reports of thousands of North Korean soldiers approaching the Ukrainian border further aggravate the situation. About 8,000 North Korean troops are preparing to join the fight against Ukrainian forces, according to U.S. and Ukrainian officials.
The new aid package includes urgently needed weapons, including air defense systems and ammunition for various artillery systems. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin recently assured in Kiev that support for Ukraine would continue to increase. With this new aid, total U.S. military support to Ukraine since the conflict began in 2022 totals an impressive $60.4 billion!
