Kapsch Trafficcom: Revolutionary toll control for Switzerland started!

On July 24, 2025, Kapsch Trafficcom announced that it will provide a comprehensive infrastructure for the recording of the performance -dependent heavy traffic (LSVA) in Switzerland. The order, which comprises a total volume of 74.5 million euros, was granted in April 2024 by the Swiss Federal Office of Customs and Border Safety (BAZG). This project extends over a two-year design and construction phase, followed by an eight-year operating and maintenance phase, which lasts until the end of 2033, with the possibility of extension by the end of 2035.

The new infrastructure will cover over 80 border crossings as well as numerous main and side streets. The system will be able to record vehicles subject to taxes. In this context, stationary video sensors are installed at 169 locations that document the license plate, the location and the type of vehicle. This enables precise identification of the vehicles that fall under the LSVA.

technical details and infrastructure

The captsch Trafficcom's detection system includes state -of -the -art technologies and video sensors to capture vehicles at border crossings and throughout the road network. The LSVA applies to motor vehicles and trailers over 3.5 tons that are used in goods transport and is based on the total weight, the emission level and the kilometers. The technical operation of the system is planned for at least eight years, which ensures ongoing operation after the construction work.

Total system exposure to 375 lanes at 89 locations and 313 lanes at 90 locations of the road network are applied. An additional 34 mobile detection vehicles are provided for more flexible inserts. In order to guarantee secure data processing, your own data center is set up at the site of the Federal Office for Computer Science (BIT).
