Fatal attack on apartment blocks in Kyiv: worst attack since 2024

This week, the number of fatalities rose to 31 by Russia due to the severe bombing of the Ukrainian capital Kiev. This represents the deadliest individual attack on Kiev in one year, as Ukrainian officials reported on Friday. Most victims were killed in a single air raid on a residential building.

Rescue measures and number of victims

So far, rescue workers have recovered the corpses of at least 28 people from the destroyed apartment block, including five children, said the National Disaster Protection Service (SES) CNN. At least 159 people were injured in the attack. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko commented: "This is the highest number of injured children on one evening in Kiev since the start of the large -scale invasion."

Attacks on the capital Kyiv

Over 100 rescue workers hurried to the western district of Sviatoshynskyi from Kiev, worked through all night and eliminated more than 2,000 tons of debris, while they were still looking for survivors. According to Tkachenko, the head of Kiev's military administration, the building was described as the direct destination of an air raid, which took place shortly before 5 p.m. local time (10 p.m. et on Wednesday).

Demands for increased sanctions

Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj said on Friday: "Once again, this hideous attack by Russia demonstrates the need to increase the pressure on Moscow and impose additional sanctions. No matter how much the Kremlin denies its effectiveness, sanctions have an effect - and they have to be reinforced." Selenskyj added that Russia used over 5,100 sliding bombs, more than 3,800 "Shahe" drones and almost 260 rocket types against Ukraine.

Attacks in other regions

In addition, regions in Donetsk and Charkiw were also attacked on Thursday night. An air raid on a five-story block in the city of Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region, which partially destroyed the building, demanded three fatalities. Further attacks on Ukraine will follow on Friday, in which at least six civilians were killed and 27 others were injured.

International reactions and analyzes

Drone and rocket attacks are started almost every night, with larger volleys now take place more regularly. The period between large -scale veneer attacks has been shortened from about a month to up to two days, according to a new analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington Think Tank. In the meantime, the number of ammunition that Russia uses in these large-scale attacks increased to almost 300 ammunition pieces in 2025 several years ago.
