Selenskyj is asking Europe to strengthen defense!

In an alarming appeal, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj asked the European countries to strengthen their defense measures in the face of increasing military threats from Russia. He warns that it is necessary to secure stability in the region. "We now know that the Russians are setting up new divisions and developing new military production facilities," said Selenskyj in Kiev. He criticized Vladimir Putin and his plans for the continuation of the war and said: "Putin is not preparing for negotiations, but for the continuation of the war, not just against us", as reported at OE24.at.

Selenskyj emphasized the urgency of the situation and the need for a common European-state answer to the military activities in Russia. As the goal, he mentioned to issue five percent of the economic output for defense. The Ukrainian president is also ready to conduct direct negotiations with Putin under certain conditions if this is the only way to peace. In an interview with ZDF, he said: "If this is the only way to peace, we will definitely go to this meeting with these four participants", whereby he meant Ukraine, Russia, the USA and Europe.

negotiations under pressure

Selenskyj made it clear that he considered Putin as an enemy and that the conversations were not burdened by the past. The Ukrainian president only considers negotiations to be possible in which all relevant parties are involved. However, this willingness to diplomacy contrasts with his strong words against the aggressive strategy of Russia. "I won't be nice to him," said Selenskyj, and referred to early concerns about potential separatism in Ukraine, which led to a ban on negotiation that was formulated in a statement from September 2022. These circumstances illustrate the complex situation in which Ukraine is currently located, especially since Donald Trump, the US President, is pushing at the end of the fights.

Selenskyj emphasized that Ukraine needed clear security guarantees and threw up the discussion about possible nuclear weapons for Ukraine if NATO joining hesitates. In a serious tone, he asked the international community what kind of support could be provided if the situation continues to worsen. According to the ZDF, the prospect of strong US support could have a decisive influence on negotiations with Russia.

Warfare remains intense, and while Ukraine is looking for solutions, the international community remains on alert. The current developments show that both military and diplomatic steps will be decisive for future stability in the region.
