Russian artist reveals portrait of Trump, the Putin gave
In March, Russian President Vladimir Putin Donald Trump surprised with a mysterious portrait of the US President. The painting was brought up by Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff, who said in an interview with the podcast moderator Tucker Carlson that it was a "beautiful portrait" of a "leading Russian artist". Trump, he added, was "obviously touched" by the gift. The secret artwork
The portrait itself has not yet been publicly unveiled. Now the artist has given and presented an exclusive insight behind the work CNN commissioned by the Kremlin, which he calls the said portrait. The painting shows Trump how he ran his fist on stage after the failed attack during his election campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. The artist Nikas Safronov, one of the most famous artists in Russia, created this work.
The embassy of the artist
"It was important to me to present the blood, the scar and his courage during the assassination. He did not collapse and was not afraid, but raised his arm to show that he is one with America and will bring back what it deserves," said the artist in conversation with CNN in Moscow.
experience with world leaders
Safronov is no stranger when it comes to portraits from world leaders. He has already painted numerous global personalities, including the late Pope Francis, Indian President Narendra Modi and North Korea's Kim Jong Un. For Trump's portrait, Safronov said that some people had visited him who wanted him to paint Trump as he perceived him. At first he did not know who these "visitors" were, he added and explained that as a well -known artist "there are customers who do not go into detail" - but the suspicion fell on the Kremlin
a work of art to improve relationships
"When I started with the portrait, I realized that this could bring our countries closer together. So I decided not to ask for any money because I suspected what this painting was intended for," the artist reported. Later, he says, Putin contacted him himself and explained that the flattering portrait of Trump was an important step to improve relationships between Russia and the United States.
The controversy around the portrait
The portrait that Safronov CNN showed and that he says that it was given to Trump by Putin, resembles a painting, the Now hangs in the Grand Foyer of the White House after the official portrait of the former president Barack Obama was removed from this place. The dramatic picture of Trump, how he raises his right fist and injects blood on his face, became a symbol of strength in his presidential election campaign.
