Russian rocket attack on Kyiv: city in fear and destruction
In a devastating attack, the Russian army bombed Kiev with ballistic rockets in the early morning, which led to considerable damage in several parts of the city. In the northern district of Obolon, an office building was on fire from the first to the seventh floor. In the south of the capital, warehouses also went up in flames, while a high -rise building was hit in the southwest. During the approximately 40-minute air alarm, many people fled into air-raid shelter or the subway stations, as reported by Ukrainian civil protection. President Wolodymyr Selenskyj emphasized that only "strong steps and pressure" of Russia could stop terrorism and that the Kremlin was not set to peace.
The Ukrainian Air Force was able to intercept six of seven ballistic rockets and also reported 71 drones shot down during the attack. Thanks to the support of western fighter planes, this has been successful, as Julija Mendel, the former spokeswoman for Selenskyj, said. Former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev said that the air raid had disclosed the true balance of power between Russia and Ukraine and emphasized the principle of “peace through strength”. According to the military administration, more than 30 residential buildings, a petrol station, a school and a hotel were damaged in the Krywyj Rih industrial city. Such attacks illustrate the continuing threats to which the civilian population is exposed to, and are part of the ongoing conflicts in the region.
