Shock in southern Ukraine: Russian rockets demand life and devastate the energy infrastructure!
In a devastating attack on the city of Cherson in South Ukraine, a Russian missile fire has asked for at least one life and injured three other people. The effects are catastrophic: the country's energy infrastructure suffers from massive damage!
On Wednesday morning, the governor of Cherson announced the tragic news. The destruction is not limited to this region - also in other parts of Ukraine, including the eastern, central and western areas, rocket conflicts were reported.
chaos in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk
In the northeastern city of Kharkiv, at least six people were injured in another rocket attack, as Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that the attacks were carried out with ballistic rockets. In Dnipropetrovsk, Russia targets the power grid, which makes the situation even more dramatic.
Ukrainen's Minister of Energy German Galushchenko warned on Facebook that Russia "massively attacks the energy sector". In order to minimize the effects, the transmission system operator has restricted the power supply. The largest private energy company in the country, Dtek, reported considerable damage to their facilities through the attacks.
an attack on energy supply
"This is already the 13th massive attack on the Ukrainian energy sector this year and the 10th on the energy facilities of our company," said Dtek. CEO Maxim Timchenko called for more advanced air defense systems from the allies of Ukraine to protect the vital energy infrastructure.
President Wolodymyr Selenskyj also informed about the power outages in several regions caused by the attacks by Russia. The attacks on the Ukrainian energy supply have increased in recent months and damaged almost half of the country's creation capacity.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin had previously announced that it had "destroyed" over Ukraine after Ukrainian drones had met residential buildings in the Russian city of Kazan. Ukraine continues to appeal to its allies for more robust air defense systems to ward off the attacks on the war -plagued land.
The situation continues to escalate: In November, Russia fired almost 200 rockets and drones on the Ukrainian power grid. President Selenskyj spoke of "cluster bombs" and described the attacks as "hideous escalation" almost three years after the start of the war.
Both sides fight for the upper hand, while the world looks at Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States in January. Trump has promised to end the conflict quickly, but without suggesting concrete conditions for an armistice or a peace treaty.
The situation remains tense, while Moscow's army states that he has conquered more than 190 Ukrainian settlements this year, while Kiev has to struggle with a lack of personnel and ammunition.
