Here are the dramatic developments on 1,036. Day of the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
On Thursday, December 26th, the situation in Ukraine was bubbling like a volcano! The fights for the strategically important city of Pokrovsk in the east of the country escalated again. The Ukrainian armed forces reported 35 Russian attacks around Wednesday. Viktor Trehubov, the regional commander of Ukraine, said: "Three Russian armies are concentrated here against us!"
But that was just the beginning! On Christmas Day, Russia started a massive attack on Ukraine, which was carried out with cruise rockets, ballistic rockets and drones. These brutal attacks injured at least six people in the north -eastern city of Charkiw and demanded a fatalities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, as the governors reported there.
A Christmas massacre
Ukrain's President Wolodymyr Selenskyj condemned the "inhumana" attack from Russia, which included more than 170 rockets and drones. Some of these attacks led to massive power failures in several regions of the country. The US President Joe Biden spoke of an "outrageous attack" that aimed to deny Ukrainian people during winter to prevent access to warmth and electricity and to endanger the safety of the power grid. The British Prime Minister Keir Strander also left no doubt that there was "no breathing space, even at Christmas" for Ukraine.
In the midst of these attacks, Russia stated that five people were killed by Ukrainian rocket attacks and a falling drone shelter in the border regions of Consk and North Ossetia. In the meantime, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Australia had contacted Moscow in order to clarify the possible capture of an Australian citizen who fought with the Ukrainian forces.
Military aid and diplomatic appeals
As a result of the devastating attacks, Biden asked the US Department of Defense to further increase arms deliveries to Ukraine. This was done in the middle of the continuing fights and the international conviction of Russian aggression.
