Russian attacks on Kharkiw: City experiences devastating bombing
In the early hours of Saturday, the second largest city in Ukraine, Charkiw, was hit by massive Russian attacks, as Mayor Igor Terekhov reported. This happened just one day after one of the largest air raids Moscow on Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict.
reinforced attacks on Ukraine
Russia has carried out extensive attacks on Ukraine in the past few days. These attacks are regarded as a retaliation for a daring drone attack from Kiev, in which more than a third of the strategic cruise ship wearers Moscow were significantly weakened.
explosions in Charkiw
The Northeast Tekrainian City of Charkiw, which is about 30 kilometers from the Russian border, was shaken by "at least 40 explosions" on Saturday. At least two people were killed and more than a dozen injured, Mayor Terekhov said about Telegram.
terrorist attacks on civil goals
"Charkiw is currently experiencing the strongest attack since the beginning of the comprehensive war," said Terekhov. "The enemy attacks at the same time as rockets, drones and directed air bombs. This is a clear act of terrorist against the peaceful population Charkiw." A video published by the emergency services showed a big fire in a multi-storey apartment block in the Osnovyanskyi district, where Terekhov reported two fatalities.
consequences of the attacks
Another person died in an attack on a house in the Kyivskyi district in the north of the city, said the mayor. A day before, Russia had fired a flood of drones and ballistic rockets over large parts of Ukraine in response to the Ukrainian drone attack, which led to at least six fatalities and dozen.
USA react to the conflict
President Donald Trump commented on the attacks and said: "They gave Putin a reason to intervene and bomb them at night." Trump had previously warned that Russian retaliation was imminent after talking to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. It remains unclear whether Putin is planning further escalations from Moscow's retaliations.
the way to peace?
Trump endeavors to end the three -year war, but hesitates to impose new sanctions against Russia, while the United States pushing the warfare nations into a ceasefire. On Friday he explained that he would use further sanctions against Russia "if necessary".
"If I think Russia will not negotiate a deal or stop bloodshed ... I will use it if necessary," he told the report. Russian and Ukrainian officials met on Monday in Istanbul for a second round of peace talks, which, however, hardly lasted more than an hour. The only tangible result was an agreement on working on a further Gef Prisoner exchange.
