Insolvency in Salzgitter: Torun Tex fights for jobs and future!

An important company in Salzgitter is on the abyss! Torun Tex, a family business that has been working in the old clothing market worldwide for decades, had to recently register bankruptcy. The shock message not only affects the region, but above all the 106 employees who face great uncertainty. Managing Director Martin Schmidt-UNFEIBEIBER attributes this dramatic turn to several factors. The geopolitical tensions mainly destroyed the company's most important sales market, especially through the Russian war against Ukraine and the associated sanctions. "The biggest market for our first choice was Russia," said Schmidt-UNFUIRG in an interview with the "Harz Kurier".

cost explosion and loss of markets

The difficulties did not remain limited to Russia. Other important markets, including Belarus, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, also remained unattended. In addition, there are exploded shipping costs, triggered by attacks by the Huthi militias and blocked shipping routes, which were observed in the Suez Canal, especially during the Ever Given. These problems led to the transport costs in the past few months and the income from the textile sale collapsed dramatically. In order not to further tighten the tense situation for the employees, the company is now planning a renovation that hopefully receives the jobs.

Hope for a fresh start is strengthened by the will of the owner Senol Torun, who assures that he knows each of his employees. Together with his brothers, he leads the efforts to navigate Torun Text through this crisis. The management consultant Alexander Worstbrock is also optimistic: "I have rarely seen a managing director who is as well-versed as Mr. Schmidt-Unuserfahr." While the situation remains dangerous, the company is determined to preserve its identity as a local landmark. For detailed information about the renovation plan it says: "Harz Kurier".
