Russian trolls spread fake video before US election – chaos in Georgia!

A shocking video falsely alleging voter fraud in the battleground state of Georgia is causing a stir just before the US presidential election. US intelligence agencies have accused “Russian influence actors” of circulating this video showing a Haitian immigrant allegedly planning to vote multiple times in two counties. The explosive revelation comes just a few days before the crucial election date on November 5th.

The video, posted on Thursday on Platform X, Elon Musk's social network, was quickly debunked as "obviously fake." Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger spoke out Friday, calling on social media to remove the video. He described it as a product of Russian trolls who want to stir up chaos and unrest. Despite the deletion of the original, numerous copies are still in circulation.

Russian influence and election integrity

A joint statement from US intelligence agencies, including the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, stressed that these activities are part of Moscow's broader efforts to raise unfounded questions about the integrity of US elections. “This assessment is based on intelligence information and previous activities of other Russian influence actors,” authorities said. Russia itself has not yet commented on the allegations and described similar claims as absurd.

Analysis of the IDs shown in the video revealed that they do not match registered voters in the affected counties. This disinformation campaign comes at a critical time, as polls show Trump and his rival Kamala Harris almost tied. With over 66 million votes already cast, voter turnout is high, adding to the urgency of these allegations.
