Austria's priest team secures strong 8th place at EM in Hungary!

At the Futsal European Championship of the Catholic priest, which took place in the city of Kisvárda in Hungary, the Austrian national team reached a solid 8th place. Kaplan Michael Semmelmeyer, who also leads the team, emphasized the noticeable improvement compared to the previous year: "I am much more satisfied with the performance and results than in the past year," he said, after the team defeated both Kosovo (3: 0) in the group phase, as well as against Poland (0: 4). In the end, Austria lost in the game for seventh place against Bosnia and thus finished 8th. The tournament victory went to Poland, which defeated Slovakia in the final, while Croatia secured third place by leaving Hungary behind him, like kathpress.at reported.

The tournament, which was launched in 2003 to offer priests from all over Europe a platform for sporting encounters, brought together more than 200 participants from 14 nations. The atmosphere was characterized by intercultural exchange and a common spirit, not only through sporting activities, but also by holy trade fairs and joint evening events. Semmelmeyer told of "Long, very personal conversations at eye level with priests from other countries", which contributed to closing new friendships and expanding the view beyond their own parish limits. The team's press spokesman, Wolfgang Zarl, was also pleased with the "unusually great interest in the Austrian priestelf" and announced future games for good purposes, like Meindezirk.at
