Net5.5G: The path to the digital future begins now!
In a groundbreaking step to promote the digital future, the World Broadband Association (WBBA) a groundbreaking white paper during MWC Barcelona 2025. This document, presented as part of the industry summit with the theme "Smarter Broadband: Investment. Innovation. Intelligence." was released, aims to accelerate the commercial deployment of Net5.5G worldwide, paving the transition to the intelligent era.
The white paper presents 15 global case studies that show how various network operators and companies - including Swisscom in Europe and Zain KSA in Saudi Arabia - are taking advantage of Net5.5G to upgrade their infrastructure, offer new services and reduce costs. In Europe, for example, Swisscom enabled comprehensive delivery of a variety of quality services to businesses, while in Nigeria, Airtel improved network capacity, resulting in reductions in operation and maintenance costs. In the Asia Pacific market, Indosat Ooredoo deployed Hutchison Net5.5G to optimize the digital service experience.
Focus on innovative technologies
A central part of the white paper is the defined four new usage scenarios for Net5.5G: computer connection, communication connection, data connection and airspace connection. In addition, crucial technologies such as ultra-broadband connections and the functional expansion of IPv6 are discussed. These advanced solutions use artificial intelligence to increase network efficiency and reduce operational costs. The WBBA also highlights the successes of the Net5.5G Pioneer Program, which has already produced 38 innovative pioneers since November 2024 and is expected to grow to 300 pioneers by 2027.
The publication of the white paper marks a significant step forward in the global adoption of Net5.5G technologies and promotes collaboration between various industry players to establish the standards and guidelines for a future-oriented network infrastructure. This document therefore represents an essential contribution to supporting companies in digital change and opening up new business opportunities.
