Austria's tennis men are looking forward to duel against Finland!
Austria is faced with an exciting task as part of the Davis Cup qualification. The Austrian tennis team, which had to retire from the upper division in 2023, will meet Finland in the first qualification game next February. The ITF announced this after the draw on Monday in London. A victory against the northern countries could enable promotion to the second round in September 2025, which is carried out in a new format with home and away games. Finland comes into this duel as number 12 and brings two players from the ATP Top 100 with Otto Virtan (94) and Emil Ruusuvuori (95th place).
The Austrian selection fought its chance of the finals through significant victories against Ireland (4: 0) and Turkey (3-0). Sebastian Ofner (currently 88th place) is the only Austrian in the ATP Top 100. Jürgen Melzer, the Davis Cup captain, described the encounter as a "solvable task" and emphasized that this lot was better from a sporting way than an away encounter against Argentina or Australia. However, Melzer warns: "We are far from a favorite role". The encounter is scheduled for January 31 and February 2nd.
finals and mode
The group division for the finals included 16 nations, which were divided into four groups. The best two teams from each group rise to the quarter -finals. The entire event was characterized by emotions because it was also the last professional tournament for tennis legend Rafael Nadal, who won 22 Grand Slam titles. Nadal's resignation was seen as a significant moment in tennis history. The finals took place on the indoor hardships of the Martin Carpena Arena in Málaga, Spain, which gave this event additional shine.
