Risk in Wales: Sturm Darragh raged over British islands!
A heavy storm called "Darragh" hit the British islands heavily and led to a rare red weather warning of the British Weather Office. In Wales there is a danger to life, while the Met Office asks about three million people not to leave their houses. The wind speed reached terrifying 93 miles per hour (approx. 150 km/h). There are also indications of possible floods. Reports by Volksblatt also informed about far-reaching effects in all of Ireland and the United Kingdom, where the electricity was around 400,000 households.
The storm also hit the infrastructure. In many areas, especially in Wales, roads were blocked by fallen trees, which led to chaotic traffic conditions. Two motorway bridges between England and Wales were temporarily closed. The public transport connection was severely restricted: dozens of flights had to be painted in Belfast, while several ferries between Northern Ireland and Scotland failed. The situation in rail traffic was particularly turbulent, where numerous train connections were affected.

The weather -related difficulties did not stop at sports either. The decisive Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, which was to take place in Goodison Park, was canceled due to the extreme weather conditions. "Today's Merseyside derby was postponed due to adverse weather conditions," said Everton. The kick-off was planned for 1.30 p.m. (CET), but the security of the players and fans had a top priority, such as reported.
