Hurricane Kirk threatens: storm gusts and storms for Cologne in sight!
A hurricane who is currently moving across the Atlantic could have a significant impact on the weather in Western Europe in the coming days. The tropical storm Kirk, whose wind speeds are just under 300 kilometers per hour, announces itself as a potential storm that the Cologne and North Rhine-Westphalia region could hit. Meteorologists face a challenge because the exact effects and the direction of the hurricane are still unsure.
The storm gains strength and, according to weather experts, could reach the highest category five. This means that the foothills of the hurricane could not only go hand in hand with strong wind gusts, but also with severe rains. The meteorologist Lars Dahlstrom from the "Kachelmannwetter" weather service predicts that Kirk could swing in a northeast course at the beginning of the next week and thus significantly influence the weather in Europe.
A potentially dangerous situation
The uncertainty about the exact path of Hurricane Kirk is significant. Several weather models indicate that the storm will pull over the Atlantic as a so -called "Fish Storm" without reaching the mainland. Nevertheless, it is warned that the likelihood of storms in Europe, especially in West Germany, is very high. Storm gusts with speeds over 100 km/h could be imminent at the end of the next week.
Frank Abel, a meteorologist of Kachelmannwetter, points out the unpredictability: "The potential of uncertainty is great. The hurricane can move towards Europe, but also stay on the Atlantic." This uncertainty primarily affects the Caribbean region and the south of Europe, where extremely high rainfall is predicted. In countries such as Portugal and Spain, according to the European Center for Medium -term weather forecast (ECMWF), almost 540 liters per square meter could fall in one week.
An uncomfortable weather conditions are still expected for Germany, especially in the Cologne region. Even before the first foothills of the hurricane arrived, ground frost with temperatures could occur up to -2 degrees at the weekend. The combination of cold weather and the risk of storms fear that the coming days could become challenging for the residents who have to adapt to changeable conditions.
The exact forecast is currently still in progress because meteorologists continuously observe and adapt the models. Particularly serious weather events seem to be safe in the coming week, regardless of whether the hurricane itself reaches Western Europe or not. Citizens are asked to pay attention to the official weather warnings and prepare for possible storms.
