Stricter single -time rules for Austrians: You need to know that!

From April 2, 2025, strict new single -time rules apply in Great Britain, which are particularly important for Austrian citizens. In the future, a so -called electronic travel permit (ETA) will be required for entry, which must be requested online. So far, only a passport has sufficient for tourist stays of up to 90 days, but that is now the end. This new regulation will correspond to the same pattern as that for the United States, where a paid online registration is necessary. As early as March 5, 2025, the ETA can be applied for, such as 5min.at

What does the ETA mean?

The ETA enables travelers to visit Great Britain for up to six months, regardless of whether it is a business trip, a family visit or an educational stay. The application can be conveniently via the "UK ETA app" or the official website and is intended to cost ten pounds, which corresponds to around 12 euros. A violation of these new requirements can lead to a conventional visa application necessary, and rejected applications cannot be challenged. The processing of the ETA applications is usually carried out within a few minutes, but the authorities recommend planning at least three working days, since processing can take longer in more complex cases, such as GOV.UK explained.

It is also important that travelers who already have a visa or a valid residence permit do not require ETA. In addition, all travelers, including children and infants, have to apply for an ETA before they can travel to Great Britain. Once approved, the ETA remains valid for up to two years or until the passport expires, which always occurs first. The application is simple, however, requires that the travelers provide relevant information in good time in order to avoid possible complications when entering.
