The 19th stage, which originally had a distance of 129.9 km (80.7 miles), was shortened to 95 km (59 miles). The festive start of the stage takes place as usual near the city of Albertville, before the drivers break down to another starting point in order to resolve the original route in front of the 52.4 km mark (32.5 miles) in front of the Beaufort. As a result, the athletes will handle the affected area and the increase at the Saisies Col. The race begins an hour later than planned, now at 2:30 p.m. local time (8:30 a.m.). The goal remains in La Plagne and marks the penultimate competition day before the historical race ends in Paris on Sunday. The 19th stage was considered one of the toughest sections of the tour, since the athletes had to cope with a demanding height difference of 4,550 meters (approx. 14,930 feet) on the original route through the Alps. The Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar to continue and defend his yellow jersey. He has expanded his lead overall to Jonas Vingegaard after the 18th stage on Thursday. A few days earlier, competitors took part in the L’étape du Tour - a famous annual event where amateurs drive a single stage of the Tour de France, usually one of the more difficult stages of the year - and drove the 19th stage completely from Albertville to La Plagne.
