Summer Mcintosh wrote history for the second time within three days at the Canadian swimming championships by broken the world record over 200 meters with an impressive performance.

In front of a sold-out audience in Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, the 18-year-old ended the race with a time of 2: 05.70 minutes and improved the previous record of 2: 06.12 minutes, which was set up by the Hungarian Katinka Hosszú in 2015.

"It was always one of these records that had been in my back of my back since the trials two years ago," said Mcintosh, who won the gold medal in the 200-meter-layer swimming at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. "I worked on again and again. Finally breaking the record is just wow, I finally did it."
The competition course
In the 200-meter layout competition, the athletes float a 50-meter route in all four swimming styles: butterfly, back, breast and freestyle.

mcintosh attributes her record to the clean breast swimming line, which offered her the basis for the record attempt. Her time in back swimming of 30.80 seconds was a second faster than her own Canadian best time she had put up last year.

"Breast swimming was always my weakest discipline, so it was important to survive the 50 meters. I knew that I would be strong in the last 50 meters because my freestyle was great so far," she said. "Overall, I am really satisfied with this time and always try to get along.
