In the Academy Theater, the Austrian premiere of "Everything is enlightened" is celebrated according to the celebrated debut novel by Jonathan Safran Foer. The author, who goes on a moving journey, is embodied by the talented Seán McDonagh. Together with a bizarre trio - the young interpreter Alex, his unusual grandfather and an equally unadorned blind dog - Foer is looking for the tragic history of his family and the roots of his Jewish identity in the long -disappeared city of Trachimbrod. According to Kleine Zeitung there is a mixture of situation comedy and moving moments that bring the tragedy of the past.
The staging of Mina Salehpour impressively brings the dramatic story of Foers ancestors to the stage. Only the narrative strands that jump over centuries are sometimes difficult to understand. Although the stage design impresses with over a hundred elegantly stacked bricks, the tension remains behind the expectations in the course of the three -hour performance. In addition, it is not possible to connect the different time levels into a conclusive whole. Nevertheless, the oppressive monologues who describe the atrocities of the Holocaust are a powerful highlight of the performance. This reports wikipedia by illuminating the literary relevance and structure of the novel, which interweaves the fictitious and autobiographical history into one another and addresses the memories of Jewish history in Europe.
bizarre characters and dramatic highlights
The ensemble, which skilfully puts itself in different roles, conveys an urgent picture of the painful past despite some weaknesses. The road trip, the foer and its companions lead through the Ukrainian landscape, is shaped by funny and packaged conversations, while at the same time exploring the horrors of the story. However, the challenge of conveying the emotional depth of the experiences remains noticeable, which leads to a shy applause after the long season. The next performances are planned on March 25th and 29th, as well as on April 13th, 23rd and May 3rd
