Reconstruction after floods of the century: This is what the future in Lower Austria looks like!
After the devastating "flood of the century" last year, which caused massive damage in Lower Austria, the reconstruction is progressing quickly. The damage is estimated at impressive 1.3 billion euros, with around 330 million euros considered not insured. However, these damage is covered by the disaster fund, according to OE24.at . The infrastructure, including streets and bridges, is particularly affected, which significantly more expensive. The cost of repairing the western route of the ÖBB amounts to around 100 million euros alone. Although many repairs have already been completed, the devastation is still evident in the everyday life of those affected, some of which had to do without fundamental care services.
international support for Ukraine
parallel to the reconstruction work in Austria, 55 million euros of the European Investment Bank (EIB) flow into the reconstruction of critical social infrastructure in Ukraine. This is part of a comprehensive framework loan to support the municipalities, such as eib.org . These projects that affect schools, hospitals and water supply systems begin in 2025. Financing underlines the unbroken EU support for Ukraine, since several projects have already been successfully completed in 2024, including a modern sewage system in Hasynka that benefits over 33,000 people.
Dengan of this international aid is supported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Local and Territorial Development, which together with the Ministry of Finance bears relevant responsibilities in the area of reconstruction. This financing helps to improve the living conditions for many people who are threatened by the war and the natural disasters in their existence.
