Trump stops tariffs - Mexico increasingly fight against drug smuggling!
There was an important turn on Monday in the customs landfill around the tariffs from Mexico, which were sought by Donald Trump. As the Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported, the tariffs were suspended for at least one month after having held a "good conversation" with Trump. In return, Mexico undertakes to significantly intensify the fight against drug smuggling, especially fentanyl. This willingness to cooperate also includes joint border patrols and the sending of 10,000 additional soldiers to the US limit to combat illegal weapon exports to Mexico.
Trump had already imposed tariffs from Mexico and Canada of 25 percent and all imports from China, which triggered concern in Europe and created possible reactions from the EU, as Spiegel.de reported. The EU was concerned that similar measures could soon be taken against European goods. These developments could lead to diplomatic tensions between the United States and European countries that are already perceived as problematic in Brussels.
