EU election: Tyrolean candidates among the top ten
On Monday, the ÖVP candidate list for the EU election was presented on May 26, with two Tyroleans, Wolfram Pirchner, a former ORF presenter, and the entrepreneur Barbara Thaler, being among the top ten. As the top candidate, Othmar Karas leads the list with the aim of increasing the votes and mandates of the ÖVP. The ÖVP currently has five seats in the European Parliament and is striving to exceed the results of the 2014 election, where it achieved 27 percent. The decision as to who moves into the EU Parliament is ultimately regulated by the preferred votes. Karas said he wanted to be a candidate for everyone who believes in the European idea and for those who are in doubt and want to make the EU more effective with him.
The list of ÖVP is diverse and includes various federal states and generations, with three women among the first five. In addition to Karas, other prominent candidates compete, including Karoline Edtstadler, who has recently denied a change, as well as Angelika Winzig and Simone Schmiedtbauer. Karas also emphasized that the upcoming choice will determine a decisive direction for Europe. While the list of candidates is determined, the post of the next State Secretary will remain open from May 26th, as Sebastian Kurz explains. The ÖVP plans an intensive election campaign and would like to stick to the election campaign costs to achieve its goals in the EU.
In the sports world and the political arena, the elections are of great importance, since they can have a lasting impact on both the dynamics of the club and the political mood in the country, while the Tyroleans are steep for their athletes and political representatives.
