Tanker Eventin in Baltic Sea: Dangerous shadow fleet in front of Rügen!
A damaged oil tanker, the "event", was secured in early January 2025 by emergency tractors off the coast of Sassnitz on the island of Rügen. The tanker under the flag of Panama was on the way from Ust-Luga in Russia to Port Said in Egypt when he suffered a total failure of his systems on Friday and became unable to maneuver. The ship drove about 20 kilometers before Rügen in the Baltic Sea.
Impressive accident missions and support from weather conditions meant that the "event" was finally checked by the emergency tractors "Baltic" and "Bremen Fighter". The accident command rated the situation as stable, while the weather made it possible to secure the tanker with a declining wind. Greenpeace describes the "event" as a member of the so -called Russian shadow fleet, which is used to avoid international sanctions.
towing and crew
To coordinate the drag insert, the federal government's multi-purpose ship was on site, supported by the federal police ship "Bamberg". At that time, the tanker was about four kilometers from the coast on the back. Despite the difficult weather conditions, with wave heights between three and four meters and storms with wind strengths up to nine, the towing association finally reaches its destination early Sunday morning. On Saturday evening, the 24-member crew received an aid delivery with electricity modules and heating fans using helicopter.
The "event" has noticed negatively in the past, including dangerous ship-to-ship transportation of oil. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Environment Minister Till Backhaus expressed concern about such ships that are a serious threat to the Baltic Sea. Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also warned of the endangerment of European security by Russia, while the EU put around 50 ships of the shadow fleet on a sanction list in December.
The tanker transported about 99,000 tons of oil and noted in a list of 192 dilapidated ships that uses Russia to circumvent sanctions. The last accident off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania occurred in October 2024 with the tanker "Annika", which, however, is not part of the shadow fleet.
RP online reported that the "event" was secured during the device operation by tugs and Greenpeace on a list of the ship Set shadow fleet.
as Tagesschau reported, the inventory of the tanker took place on board due to a blackout, which led to a dangerous drift in the Baltic Sea.
