Renaturation is the word of 2024: Political charging in focus!

Graz, Österreich - The Austrian word of 2024 is the politically invited “renaturation”, as the Society for Austrian German announced in Graz. It was chosen as part of an election in which over 10,000 voters took part. “Renaturation” received 24 percent of the votes and referred to the return of agricultural or industrially used areas back to a natural state. This topic is particularly important, since it is related to the EU's recently adopted Renaturation Act, in which the Austrian Minister of Environment Leonore of Guessler was also significantly involved, which led to tensions in politics. The ÖVP had even submitted criminal charges, but which the WKStA was covered, as the Volksblatt reported.

Und word and youth word of the year

The word of the year was declared "People's Chancellor", a term that Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) used for his ambitions as possible Chancellor. The jury pointed out that this expression is questionable due to its historical connection to Nazi terminology because it is reminiscent of the leadership cult. He received 34 percent of the vote. The youth word of the year is "Heast", followed by "cooked", which indicates overwhelmed situations. Interestingly, in connection with the choice of the unwords, the development of language and the use of terms in the political discussion has been pointed out, similar to the case of previous disorders since 2010, which were often politically or socially charged, such as in the entry to Underlorders of the year.

In addition, the positive saying of the year was chosen as the "Lugner is Immörtal", a tribute to the late master builder Richard Lugner, while the negative counterpart "your will" embodies the ambiguous use of religious language in politics. These results not only reflect the language changes in society, but also the deep political trenches that currently exist in Austria.
