Pensioners in panic: Are there higher contributions to you?

A sensational discussion about the possible increases in health insurance contributions for pensioners is at the center of political debates in Austria. The General Secretary of the FPÖ, Michael Schledlitz, sharply criticized the statements of the ÖVP club chairman August Wöginger and accused him of spreading wrong information. According to Schledlitz, the budget plans transmitted by Finance Minister Gunter Mayr are not a document that provides for an increase in the contributions for seniors. In the FPÖ press declaration, it is emphasized that the freedoms have always insisted that the contribution loads should not be passed on to the pensioners. Demonstrative resistance to these planned measures comes from the pensioner association. President Peter Kostelka criticized the supposed advantages that the pensioners were originally promised and found that the seniors themselves had to stuff the government's financial holes. These developments show once again how controversial and potentially disadvantage the government's austerity measures could be for the older generation.
