Austria's fight against human trafficking: Experts are calling for urgent measures!
Österreich - The fight against human trade is the focus of the European Union and Austria! A current report by the EU Commission shows that the number of registered victims in the EU rose to alarming 10,093 in 2022 in 2021-an increase of 41 percent! This new statistics underline the urgency with which the EU has to adapt its strategies in order to act more effectively against this crisis. It is particularly worrying that the majority of the victims are third -state members, with sexual exploitation with 49 percent the most common form of human trade. It is shocking that 92 percent of these victims are women, as can be seen from the report on the "European strategy to combat human trafficking 2021–2025", which is already added in July 2024 by a revised guideline that focuses on the protection of children and combating sexual exploitation on the Internet.
Austria's measures against human trafficking
At the same time, Austria implemented measures to combat human trafficking, which were positively evaluated by experts from the European Council, which the country visited in December 2023. They praised the consideration of the Greta recommendations and the increase in funding for two NGOs that are involved against human trafficking. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do: The experts demand "proactive inspections" in riskectors for precarious migrant workers and the improvement of legal protection for nurses. In addition, it is criticized that many recommendations from previous reports have not been implemented, such as the introduction of a "recreation and reflection period" for victims of human trafficking before they may be deported. The challenges are enormous, and while the EU and Austria are committed to intensifying the measures against human trafficking, it remains critical that tight controls and better support from the data subject are guaranteed. Further resources and a preventive approach are required to increase the safety and protection of the particularly vulnerable groups, such as minors and migrant workers. In this sensitive topic, the cooperation between different authorities and organizations must finally be strengthened in order to finally put human dealers, such as Kleine Zeitung href = "https://germany.represation.ec.europa.eu/news/kampf- against-menschen-eu-kommission-plant-plattform-zur-bekramzel-2025-01-21_de" report.
