Austria's triple coalition: Majority of voters is satisfied!

In Austria, government formation could finally occur: After months of negotiations, the parties ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos are faced with the possibility of forming a coalition of three. This development follows a haunting appeal by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen, who warned the party leader to be willing to compromise. According to a report by the Tagesschau there were already intensive conversations behind closed doors, in particular to avoid a deficit procedure given by the EU.

A current opinion poll that was carried out in the political talk "Currently: Die Woche" on Pulse 24 shows that the population of the triple coalition is positive. According to APA-OTS support the coalition, whereby the voters of Neos (87 percent consent) and public transport in particular (86 percent consent) welcome this development. In contrast, 71 percent of the FPÖ voters reject the coalition. These figures illustrate the split opinion of the electorate in Austria and present the new coalition to the challenge of further expanding trust.

The struggle for stability

The talks also revolve around the distribution of the ministries, whereby the ÖVP boss Christian Stocker is traded as a possible new Federal Chancellor. The current situation is the result of failed negotiations in the past few months, including the failed coalition talks between the ÖVP and SPÖ as well as between these parties and the NEOS in January. In the last election, the FPÖ achieved the highest number of votes with almost 29 percent, followed by the ÖVP and the SPÖ. Nevertheless, the three parties could pave the way for a stable government with a common majority in the National Council (110 out of 183 seats).
