Austria and Portugal: A strong duo for Europe's future!
At a important meeting in Lisbon, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa discussed central issues of European cooperation. Scholz emphasized the need to strengthen the European Union's ability to act, especially with regard to the challenges that the Russian attack on Ukraine brings. He pointed out that the war is not only a threat to peace in Ukraine, but also endangered the entire European security system. Scholz said: "We will continue to support Ukraine - politically, financially, humanitarian, but also with weapons."
As part of the meeting, the important role of Germany was also emphasized to Ukraine in the delivery of modern Leopard 2 tanks. Costa described this support as crucial and praised Germany's quick response to the challenges in energy supply due to the war. "Germany was one of the countries that were most affected by this crisis," said Costa. The two heads of state confirmed their determination to deepen bilateral relationships and to find solutions for the challenges of energetic independence and the expansion of the EU.
European collaboration
Schallenberg, the Austrian Foreign Minister, announced his inaugural visit to Brussels shortly before to strengthen the EU partnership. He explained: "Austria is and remains a strong, reliable and constructive partner in the European Union." The discussions between Schallenberg and the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have shown that in these challenging times it is crucial to find and implement common European solutions in order to secure the EU's ability to act, such as Kleine Zeitung reported.
