Austria launches historical climate plan in good time!

Österreich, Land - Austria has finally presented its long-awaited national energy and climate plan (NEKP) to show the European Commission how the climate-political requirements want to meet it. This step comes late, because the original draft should have been submitted in June 2023, but was not submitted on time, which led to an impending infringement procedure. The final plan, which has now been updated in the last trains, stipulates that Austria has to reduce its climate -damaging emissions by 2030, such as bmk.gv.at .

The Greens are satisfied with progress because the climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler emphasized that the government was now on course. The new plan based on the WAM scenario (with additional measures) describes in detail how the goals should be achieved and includes both already decided and planned measures. In addition, the Ministry of Climate Protection announced to abolish climate control -productive subsidies and to promote the expansion of hydrogen production in order to achieve the climate goals. The final plan is an updated version of the draft presented in August, whereby the Commission's questions have now been answered, such as reported.

The next steps

These measures are now binding for the upcoming Austro-Ampel government. With the submission of the EU's climate plan, Austria can consider its legal obligations to be fulfilled. This likes to be able to terminate the intended violation procedure. The Ministry of Climate emphasizes that the climate plan represents a central part of the way to achieve the national climate goals and encourages to continue to fight for climate protection.
