EU bureaucracy stops cake joy at the Bordesholm Christmas market!
Bordesholm, Deutschland - Bitters for sweet tradition! At the popular Christmas market in Bordesholm, Schleswig-Holstein, a bureaucratic shock ensures turmoil: the EU is baking a baking ban! What has made the hearts beat faster for almost 50 years, the homemade cakes are suddenly no longer allowed.
The uncleful EU bureaucrats are fully on the brake pedal with their regulation No. 852/2004. This regulation turns the baking women "food companies" with tough regulations. Forget the sweet temptations from the house kitchen: Each piece of cake should now come with a list of ingredients, allergens and also from an officially certified kitchen!
Fear prevents run on the oven!
The country women, around 430 in number, leave the mixing bowls and withdraw with heavy hearts. Claudia Jargstorf, the chairwoman, told the "Holsteiner Zeitung": "We were startled because there was already a ban on baking. Sure is certain!" The fear of checks and juicy fines will bring the pre -Christmas baking pleasure.
The district administration has clear wine: exceptions are not to be thought of! Also no wink menu information such as "consumption at your own risk", because that would undermine EU laws. The Christmas market, which draws thousands of visitors every year, does not fall under the "smaller event" for which one could make exceptions.
The stove continues to dust, while 8,000 expectant sweet tooth have to look around at foreign stands this year. But one thing is certain: the love for the homemade treats remains unbroken and so the country women hope to recapture the crown of the Christmas market!
