Discover Europe: 35,500 free moving tickets for young people from tomorrow!

Wien, Österreich - On April 2, 2025, the new application round for the Discovereu program, which is organized by the European Commission. A total of 35,500 free travel tickets are awarded to offer young Europeans the opportunity to explore the continent. In Austria, the campaign is implemented by the OEAD, the National Agency for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. This year the 30th anniversary of Austria is also celebrated in the EU.

With discoverewife, young people between the ages of 18 and 19 can travel through Europe free of charge for 30 days. Young people who were born between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007 are eligible to participate. The competition is aimed at young people from the European Union and from associated countries such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey.

The application phase begins on April 2 at 12:00 p.m. CET and ends on April 16 at 12:00 p.m. CET. Interested candidates have to answer a quiz about the European Union on the European youth portal to qualify. Successful applicants not only receive a train ticket for trips between July 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026, but also a discoveru European Youth Card, which offers numerous discounts on public transport, cultural events, accommodations and catering in 36 countries.

In addition to the travel offers, national Erasmus+ agencies will organize information events and evaluation meetings. In Austria, two meet-ups are planned for the summer of 2025: from June 20th to 22nd in Vienna and from July 22nd to 25th in the Salzkammergut. Participants who need additional help due to disabilities or health problems are also expressly supported.

The European Commission was launched in 2018 and is part of the Erasmus+ program, which is equipped with a budget of 26.2 billion euros in the current funding period from 2021 to 2027. This budget was almost doubled compared to previous years. The program thus pursues more important priorities such as social inclusion, digital and green change as well as promoting young people in democratic life.

Since the start of discoverew, over 1.5 million people have applied for a total of 355,000 travel tickets. The next submission period for projects that begin between March 1 and August 31, 2026 ends on October 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. CET. As part of the program, the aim is to explore the cultural diversity of Europe and to offer young participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the cultural heritage and history of Europe.
