Electricity prices are exploding: This is how households save up to 600 euros!

Energy costs are facing a dramatic increase: from 2025, households will have to expect significantly higher electricity and gas prices. According to an analysis by durchblicker, the price differences between providers are enormous and in many cases consumers save hundreds of euros by switching providers. Stefan Spiegelhofer, energy expert at durchblicker, emphasizes: “The choice of electricity and gas supplier has major financial implications.” For example, an average household in Austria could save up to 600 euros on electricity and up to 1,150 euros on gas by switching providers, as many alternatives offer strong discounts for new customers. Particularly in Upper Austria, where prices at Energie AG can be up to 1,434 euros per year, this represents enormous savings potential, as cheaper alternatives are available starting at 838 euros, which corresponds to a saving of over 42 percent.

Important alternatives in focus

The analysis clearly shows that the large state energy suppliers are less flexible due to their fixed prices. Small companies, on the other hand, react more quickly to market changes. This results in many households paying more with their current provider, even when taking into account new customer discounts. Wien Energie, for example, offers the cheapest tariff among the state providers, but here too the cheaper alternatives are not far away. The situation is particularly striking in Vorarlberg, where households with a high annual consumption of 15,000 kWh pay 2,424 euros without discounts, while alternatives are only 1,276 euros, which corresponds to a price difference of 47 percent.

In addition to the classic tariffs, there are now also modern options such as dynamic electricity tariffs and green electricity tariffs. These innovative models allow consumers to save by adapting their consumption to market fluctuations. Information from stromauskunft shows that dynamic tariffs are particularly beneficial for customers who can actively manage their electricity consumption and adapt their usage to times when prices are low. In addition, green electricity tariffs are now often cheaper than conventional tariffs and offer sustainable energy use. Households should consider these alternatives to not only save money but also contribute to the energy transition.
