In the Brandnertal, a marten on Sunday evening ensured that 760 households were without electricity for over four hours. The situation in the Montafon was even more dramatic, where several municipalities were cut off from the power grid for up to five hours on Saturday evening. The affected places - Schruns, Bartholomäberg, Vandans and St. Anton - have around 10,000 inhabitants. According to the police, not only houses and shops were affected, but also traffic lights and street lighting were still quiet. Monday morning the damage site was localized by MBS Energie, a subsidiary of the Montafonerbahn. MBS board director Ekkehard Nachbaur said in an interview that the situation had never occurred to this extent. "We have employees here who have been with the company for 45 years, and it is not known to us that it had such an effect," said Nachbaur. To remedy the damage, a small excavator was used to replace the damaged sleeve, a connecting piece of the 20-kilovolt line. The repair of the sleeve, a very difficult process, took about two hours.
