Fire brigade Gießen: Christmas on duty - a contemplative commitment!

Gießen, Deutschland - The fire brigade in Gießen also shows full commitment at Christmas! On December 24th, the firefighters will be available for the safety of the citizens around the clock as usual. Steffen Schmidt, acting as head of operations, describes that the working day begins at 7 a.m. After checking the equipment and vehicles, energy is filled up at 9 a.m. While the cleanup is often due to the year, on Christmas Eve you ensure that everything flashes and shines. The coming together is shaped by a warm mood, especially when the families drop by for coffee and cookies, which Schmidt describes as one of the most beautiful moments of the day.

volunteer festivals and valued camaraderie

Another highlight are the events of the honorary and age department of the fire brigades, such as the last annual general meeting in Homberg (Ohm). Here, 40 out of 48 members met to celebrate the successes of the past year and to decide important innovations. It is particularly gratifying that the community of 14 members has grown to 48 now. Otto Morneweg, a co -founder of the department, was retired for his merits after 20 years and appointed an honorary member. The new management team is planning various activities for 2024 to promote contact between the former and active members of the fire brigade, such as an excursion and numerous events.

Both events underline the importance of the fire brigade, not only in the acute emergency, but also in the care of community and cohesion among the comrades, as the two reports by Gießener Anzeiger and Gießener show general. At the same time, they warn of not only showing the appreciation for the firefighters on public holidays, but also practicing all year round.
