Traffic deaths in Vorarlberg: Worrying increase in 2025!
In 2025, Vorarlberg has recorded a worrying increase in traffic deaths. How exxpress.at Reportedly, 14 people died in traffic, a significant increase compared to the seven fatalities in 2024. This development also exceeds the values of several comparable years in the last decade.
Despite this negative balance, Vorarlberg remains the country with the fewest traffic fatalities in Austria when compared to other federal states. The mobility association VCÖ highlights that excessive speed was identified as the main cause in 45% of fatal accidents in the first ten months of the year. Car occupants, motorcyclists, cyclists and e-bikers are particularly affected.
The causes of accidents
Similar alarming trends were also observed in 2023, when the number of traffic deaths in Vorarlberg rose from 10 to 20, i.e. more than doubled vorarlberg.orf.at reported. Urgent need for action
A particular need for action is seen on country roads, as an above-average number of serious accidents occur here. There are growing calls for a speed limit of 80 km/h and more frequent controls to sanction risky driving behavior exxpress.at always louder. The recording of traffic accidents in Austria is carried out electronically by police authorities and the relevant data is forwarded to Statistics Austria on a daily basis, which is done within the framework of the Road Traffic Accident Statistics Act statistic.at.
The current increase in traffic deaths in Vorarlberg reflects a nationwide trend. Road safety remains a key challenge for the authorities. In order to avoid future accidents, targeted measures are urgently required.
